Arranged by George Gruntz, Piero Umiliani and Lars Gullin, this Classy swing album include a great version of "Blues for Gassman" and the Track "Peter of April".
In this record the style of every arranger is different: Piero Umiliani seems to prefer one way "well defined" of expressions, that entirety series level the execution in one well balanced way!
George Gruntz seems to orient itself towards a swing burning that leaves wide space to great solos....
Lars Gullin seems to love one figure of the short solos, alternatively to the members of the octet it completes them from the frequent spaces of the resources of the "insieme"....

A beautiful example of the prolific Art form of the jazz musicians from the Deep North Italy !
Recorded in Milan in may 1960, this album actually is the most wanted from Italian jazz collector, for the presence of Dino Piana in the album, and for the typical 60's mood of the Italian jazz of the period, this album include the classic Basso Valdambrini style: "Lucy ed io" probably composed by Gianni Basso, but signed by Donadio, (Gianni can't sign any tracks in 60's and 70's because he work every day in national Italian tv! - the same happen with the track "Donna lu" originally composed by Gianni and dedicated to his beautiful wife Luciana!), the album include also the classic: "Ciao Turin" (the symbol of the Italian jazz of the 60's) in this track classy solo's and a very beautiful Italian melody, a tribute to Maestro Carlo Prato dedicated to the city of Turin, the city where Dino, Oscar and Gianni born!
Great sound also on the uptempo swing: "Guess who" & "Crazy rhythm" and the track "Il grimmo" signed by Oscar Valdambrini!! a sound and a style that re-unites melodia, nostalgia, joy, jazz and Soundtrack style, in a unique way, and therefore deeply Italian....
